1950's Vintage Crocheted Heavy Granny Square Afghan
This heavy wool afghan made is about 5x11 feet, has granny squares, and the dominant color is hunter green with a variety of colors in the squares.
From the donor, Doris Wachsler:
This quilt was crocheted by my grandmother, Franzisca Spatt, a Viennese lady whose family made fine linens (for bed and table) in Vienna in 1900 or thereabouts. She made this afghan around 1950-1960. She was a perfectionist, everything she made is superbly crafted and will wear well. (I have one she made for me when I went to college in 1955 and I have used it often all these years). I think this afghan is wool, but might be wool and acrylic; I don't know for sure. This item comes from a smoke-free, pet-free environment.
